Reading Challenge 2024

Retired Navy SEAL Remy Montagne left the Navy to take on a career where he could make a difference. After a short vacation to his old hometown of Bayou Mambaloa and a casual hookup with local woman, Shelby Taylor, he joins Hank Patterson’s Brotherhood Protectors in Montana.

Sheriff’s Deputy Shelby Taylor grew up Bayou Mambaloa and chose to work for the people of the parish by protecting them from criminals. Attacked and left for dead in the bayou, she’s rescued by an old fisherman. She has no memory of what happened and no memory of the attack or her hookup with Remy. When her safety is compromised, her sister calls on Remy to protect Shelby until whoever tried to kill her is caught.

Remy returns to Bayou Mamabloa to protect Shelby and is shocked that she has no memory of him or the passionate night they spent in the midst of a raging storm. Together, they struggle to discover the identity of whoever is after her and why someone would want to kill her. In the process, a fresh flame of passion ignites between them but might be extinguished if her attacker makes good his threats.
I can't say with hundred percent certainty that I haven't read Elle James before but if I have it was only one book a long time ago. The good news is that I have found her or tried her again. I started her with the Bayou Brotherhood Protectors series. Yes, it's the first book in the series but it isn't really the first series in the brotherhood series. Not to worry I am working my way through all her books.

Remy is the first of the series and starts off with him rushing to help a woman he's known for a long time but only just recently had a one-night stand with her. When she's attacked and someone is trying to killer her, he runs home to protect her bring along some friends to help and set up protection company branch of the business he works for.

Shelby is a kick butt woman who takes charge. After getting hurt she has to count on someone else to protect her and that doesn't sit right. She doesn't really remember what happened and doesn't know who to protect herself from.

I enjoyed how these two learned how to come together and work for what's needed. It takes a bit for Shelby to remember that she slept with Remy, but she does know she trust him to keep her safe. I love the action in the story and humor. I also like the other guys that work with Remy and look forward to their stories.
