Reading Challenge 2023

NYPD cop Desiree "Dez" MacDermot knows she's changed a lot since she palled around with her childhood buddy, Mace. But it's fair to say that Mace has changed even more. It isn't just those too-sexy gold eyes, or the six-four, built-like-a-Navy Seal body. It's something in the way he sniffs her neck and purrs, making her entire body tingle...

Meanwhile, for Tennessean Ronnie Lee Reed, New York City is the place where any girl―even one who runs with a Pack―can redefine herself. First order of business: find a mate, settle down, and stop using men for sex. Even big, gorgeous, lion shifter men like Brendon Shaw. But she needn't worry, because now that Brendon's set his sights on her, the predator in him is ready to pounce and never let go...
This was my first introduction to Shelly Laurenston and I have to say that I'm so glad that I found her as an author. I just love her book and they always leave me feeling happy. I often finding myself laughing long after the book is done. Out of the blew something will just come to me and I will laugh. The Mane Event is two stories in one. You have Christmas Pride and Shaw's Tail.

Christmas Pride
I will say that Mace is one of my favorite lions. As much as he acts like a lion he doesn't do some of the silly things that they also do in the series. He seems more independent and together. I'm not saying that he doesn't show us his 'it's all about me' but he also shows depth. I can't see him getting all worked up about his hair. Believe so many of them do. I love how much he's loved Dez for so long and how happy he was to be with her again. These two just work. Dez is kick ass and smart. She works so hard to protect those around her. I not only liked her I also liked her family. Love how the sisters fight with each other but if some goes after one of them to become a unit and turn on them. You'll love how strong Mace love for her is. He's willing to live with dogs.

Shaw's Tail
You meet both Brendon and Ronnie in the prior book. Brendon was only okay for me in the prior book till the very end when he shows you, he's a good guy. Him and Ronnie work. She fights it a lot but after a while she realizes that he's a good guy that loves her and puts up with her family. One of the things I liked most about him is that since he learns of his brother, he's done all he could to be close to him. Even when his brother fought him on it. He's also a great dad and that counts for a lot for me.

As a whole this is a great story that easily moves from one story to the next. It's starts off years of enjoyment for me.
