Let's Talk About

This year I want to do a new post on Fridays where we can discuss a particular book, author, or anything I can come up with. This week I talked about contemporary romance. I hope to hear your thoughts.

Contemporary Romance

I love them. At the moment it's most of what I read. I do jump around to historical, paranormal, and romantic suspense which I usually include in contemporary romance.

What works for you

I think for me it's the modernness of it. I like how much room there is in them to write the story. The main characters can live together without her either working for him or him being in charge of her life. It often puts the characters on a more even playing field. Plus I'm all into modern things. I like the use of computers and phones being mentioned. I also like it when they like to binge-watch silly shows together and it becomes "their thing"

What doesn't work for you?

Sometimes I don't care for the silly actions of some of the characters. When you don't have to answer anyone you think you are always right and can do what you want. Silly things like when there is a killer after you and you decided you don't need the police to protect you because you can take care of yourself so you open yourself up to be taken. Yeah, it makes a better plot point but makes me feel like you are too stupid to live. If a killer is after me I'm making my bed in the middle of whatever room has the most men or women trained to protect. But that's me. I have too many books to read to give up now. 

What's your favorite of them

It's meeting new characters and towns. I love nothing better than getting to meet new characters that help draw me into the book/series. I've learned that no character is too small. That includes the pets we all love so much. They help make a story.  

As you can tell I love contemporary romance. Reading them has gotten me through some crappy moments in my life. I'd love to hear your thoughts?
