ARC Review: The Inn on Mirror Lake by Debbie Mason

Elliana MacLeod has come home to whip the Mirror Lake Inn into tip-top shape, the only way to prevent her mother from selling the beloved family business. In between watching over mischievous, cigar-sneaking Grandpa Joe and trying to help Highland Falls win the Most Romantic Small Town in America contest, Elliana’s plate isn’t just full, it’s overflowing. She can’t refuse Nathan Black’s offer to fix up the inn, even if the gorgeous law enforcement officer has made it abundantly clear he considers her a friend, and nothing more.

Nate knows he’s not cut out for long-term relationships or white picket fences, and that’s what Ellie deserves. Yet keeping her at arm’s length is nearly impossible, especially once they’re working—and living—side-by-side. The more time he spends with Ellie, the more he wants, and not just for today but forever. When Ellie’s ex returns to town, has Nate missed his chance with the woman of his dreams?
If you follow me you know how much I love reading Debbie Mason. Her books are so well written with characters that you love and some you totally hate. Or think you do. But every once in a while she gives you a book in a series that totally rocks. It's just the best one in the series. I didn't think that would happen again in the Highland Falls series since I totally loved the first book. But I have to tell you this one overshadowed it.

To be honest I'm not sure why this one is that much better for me. I think it has to do with how the characters came together and the humor in this one just hit my funny bone. More than once I found myself laughing out loud.

I totally love Elliana and Nate. They are just perfect for each other.

Loved Nate since he showed up. You just never knew what he was doing. I will tell you that his need to get the people who killed his friend are both upstanding and too much at times. He just never stopped no matter what it did to his life. There were times that I found myself yelling at the book like he'd hear me. I will say that loyalty is one of the things I like about him. You don't really think it when you first meet him. He hides a lot of his feelings behind a mask. Once you start to learn about him you see how human he is.

Elliana's life is heartbreaking. Thankfully she had her grandparents to be there for her. The way her mother treated her is horrible. She didn't deserve it at all. It seemed like her whole family acted badly towards her. Since her brother wasn't in the story much more than on the phone you don't get a good bead on him, but her sister did whatever her mother wanted. It's seemed like the only ones there for her were the Highland Falls family.

I could go on about how I felt about it but let's move on to the story itself. It moves very well and I liked how Nate was made to take care of his dead buddies kid for a while. He needed that. At no time does the story drag so you'll feel like you're on a race to the end even though you didn't want it to do just that. I'm very much looking forward to the next book in the series. From what we got about it in this one it's going to be so good.

I think you'll find so much about this book that you'll love. The characters really make it. They bring humor, happiness, and love to this story. There is a bunch of surprises in this story too. You'll love how it all ties up and what happens with everyone. It's a great story all around. If you haven't yet started this series then you need to get to it. Start in the beginning because you'll love that book too. Have any of you read her?
