Review: A Lot Like Love by Jennifer Snow
When Sarah Lewis inherits a run-down B&B from her late grandmother in coastal Blue Moon Bay, the logical thing to do is sell it and focus on her life in L.A. But when she learns that interested buyers will only tear it down in its current state, she feels a sense of obligation to her grandmother to get it back to the landmark tourist destination it once was...even if that means hiring the best contractor for the job, who happens to be her old high school crush.
Wes Sharrun’s life has continued to unravel since the death of his wife three years before. Now with a struggling construction company and a nine-year-old daughter, he sees the B&B as an opportunity to get back on his feet. Unfortunately, despite trying to keep his distance, his daughter has taken a liking to Sarah, and his own feelings are tough to deny.
As they spend more time together painting, exploring a forgotten treasure trove of wine in a basement cellar, and arguing over balcony placement, the more the spark between them ignites. But will saving the B&B be enough to convince them both to take a second chance at love?
I love starting new series. You go in learning about the new characters and places. Some authors will give you enough in the series starter to really get a feel for everyone and the town and others give you just enough to keep you wondering. Snow for me is the second one. She gives you enough to come back but it takes a few books to really know the town and the people who leave in it.
I really enjoyed both Sarah and Wes. They both seemed like good people. Poor Wes has been through the wringer the last few years. You can't help but feel for him. On top of all that he's not totally sure how to relate to his daughter. What I like is that he keeps trying and takes advice from Sarah about it.
While Wes is bogged down with what life has thrown his way Sarah is more focused on herself and what she wants. She can't see that there is another way of life until Wes and his daughter came into her life. I liked how she changed and learned to care about someone else.
I also liked the relationship Sarah has with her friends. They all care about each other and it shows in this book. I would have liked a bit more with both Wes and Sarah's friends. I think it would have made for a fuller story.
As a whole, I really enjoyed A Lot Like Love and can't wait for the next book in the series. The only thing I felt was left out was how Wes's inlaws handed him getting with Sarah. The author gave you a glimpse of how'd the act but I felt it was dropped and never brought back up again. It's a forgivable thing since I liked it so much. Any of you read her?
