I picked this challenge to do:
Start a new series
His job or his family…
Jackson Garrett is a Hot Shot, one of an elite team who fights forest fires. More than once he’s saved the lives of the people on his crew. And more than once, Jackson knows the reason he’s made it out alive is Lexie – his good luck charm and one true love.

A marriage in peril…
Lexie Garrett doesn’t feel as if she ever had a husband. With Jackson always away, she’s practically raised their daughter alone. There’s no doubt Lexie loves Jackson. But will he be there for her the way he says he will? Now and forever?
I love starting new series. For me, this is a newer author that I've been enjoying and couldn't wait to read more by her. I found this series and started it.

So glad that I did.

I totally enjoyed this one. I loved Jackson even though I could see his flaws. Let me tell you he had many. At times I wanted to yell at him to get his act together. He couldn't see himself through his own hero-worshipping. It's not that he's a bad guy, he doesn't even realize he's self-absorbed and that he is the only important person in the world.

His journey is a hard one. He needs to learn about all the things he has missed out on like his daughter growing up. I felt for him as this stuff dawned on him, but only a little. He needed a kick in the butt.

I also liked Lexie. She was right for leaving him but that's where it stopped for me. Hiding what she did was so wrong and for his mother to know that too bugged the crap out of me.

Their relationship is a rough one to read about at times. They love each other so much but haven't really grown up emotionally. More so Hunter than Lexie but both need to pull up their big pants. Even with all the growing up issues these two are very likable and you want them to work it all out.

This is a wonderful start to the series and the author sets up the next book very nicely. I have a feeling I'm going to shedding a few tears in it. I'll let you know soon.

Have any of you read this author?

  1. This sounds like a great one here!! I really love seeing growth in the heroes especially the flawed ones

    1. That's this one. They both had to grow. Him more than her though.
