Book Club Thursday: Thursday Rewind

Welcome back to Book Club Thursday!

This week we are doing

So this is going to be a fun post. We each take a review our fellow blogger did and read the book and review it. I picked Lady Bridget's Diary by Maya Rodale. I've been told more then once to try it. I can't wait to tell you my thoughts about it and see how different they are from Cyndi's @ Born to Read Books

Lady Bridget's Diary
Keeping Up With the Cavendishes #1
Maya Rodale
Avon Books
2/23/16
Genre: Historical Romance
Pages: 361
Format Read: eBook
Source: Self Purchased

Lord Darcy is the quintessential Englishman: wealthy, titled, impossibly proper, and horrified that a pack of Americans has inherited one of England's most respected dukedoms. But his manners, his infamous self-restraint, and his better judgment fly out the window when he finds himself with the maddening American girl next door.

Lady Bridget Cavendish has grand—but thwarted—plans to become a Perfect Lady and take the haute ton by storm. In her diary, Bridget records her disastrous attempts to assimilate into London high society, her adoration of the handsome rogue next door, her disdain for the Dreadful Lord Darcy, and some truly scandalous secrets that could ruin them all.

It was loathing at first sight for Lady Bridget and Lord Darcy. But their paths keep crossing . . . and somehow involve kissing. When Lady Bridget's diary goes missing, both Darcy and Bridget must decide what matters most of all—a sterling reputation or a perfectly imperfect love.

Since both Cyndi (born to read books) and I no longer read the same types of books this one was kinda hard for me. I had to go way back to find something to read. I picked this one because I mentioned it on one of our posts, In Case You Missed It on 2/8/18.

On that date I mentioned wanting to read it and so...

Here we are. As always I try not to read others reviews before I read a book. Sometimes they influence me one way or the other. In my head as I'm reading the story I keep thinking about what so and so said.

Yes I read this review by born to read books but as you can see it was a very long time ago. In fact it was on 2/29/2016. See, I told you, a long time ago. I am going to write most of this review and then go read Cyndi's. Let's see what we both think.

I was very glad to finally read a book by Maya Rodale. I've been meaning to for a very long time I just haven't. Can't tell you why one way or another. Until now it just hasn't happened. I will tell you one thing reading this book reminded me why I hate giving stars for reviews.

For me this one didn't fit into any of the stars. My feels are all over the place. First off it took me a while to get through it. Not sure if it was because of the book or that I was slightly burnt out by a overload of reading. Both can be the answers.

It wasn't that I had trouble reading the story. It's pretty easy to get into, it was staying in the story that was a issue for me. I kept stopping and thinking to myself, 'where have I read that plot before'. It really kept me for enjoying the story.

It was kinda like the author took a bunch of stories and put it together. A well written story doesn't always make up for this. In fact I really liked the charcters too, but they too felt like I've read them somewhere before.

I can't say that I didn't like the story, just that it was...yeah, I know! See why star reviews suck? I'm off now to read Cyndi's review.

If you've read Lady Bridget's Diary or any other book by Maya Rodale I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for visiting and happy reading! ♡

  1. Different strokes, different folks...however it may seem familiar because the author admits to being inspired by a certain movie

    1. Well since I don't want romances I most likely haven't seen it.
