J. R. Ward

Genre: Paranormal

Trez “Latimer” doesn’t really exist. And not just because the identity was created so that a Shadow could function in the underbelly of the human world. Sold by his parents to the Queen of the S’Hsibe as a child, Trez escaped the Territory and has been a pimp and an enforcer in Caldwell, NY for years- all the while on the run from a destiny of sexual servitude. He’s never had anyone he could totally rely on... except for his brother, iAm.

iAm’s sole goal has always been to keep his brother from self-destructing- and he knows he’s failed. It’s not until the Chosen Serena enters Trez’s life that the male begins to turn things around... but by then it’s too late. The pledge to mate the Queen’s daughter comes due and there is nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, and no negotiating.

Trapped between his heart and a fate he never volunteered for, Trez must decide whether to endanger himself and others- or forever leave behind the female he’s in love with. But then an unimaginable tragedy strikes and changes everything. Staring out over an emotional abyss, Trez must find a reason to go on or risk losing himself and his soul forever. And iAm, in the name of brotherly love, is faced with making the ultimate sacrifice...
Some how I always let my self get behind on some of my favorite authors. I think it's because I have way more favorites then there is days of the year. I'd need to read 2-3 books a day to keep up with everything.

As you can see I'm way behind on Ward. I think most of my reason is that I can read 2 or more books to every one of hers. She does pack a ton of pages into each story. What saves her books from being to much (for me) is that fact that when I read her I always feel like I start the book and finish it hours later. I don't, but that's how fast the story moves.

In The Shadows you'll visit with all the characters we really love. Story lines will continue and some will tie up. Some of the story lines will drag you in and leave you wanting. I really enjoyed the book as a whole. It's well written and I do love her characters.

Now saying that I have to tell you that this is in no way a romance. In fact to be honest you could skip this book and not really miss out on anything. This one gives you the feeling of a soap opera where it keeps you busy until something big happens next week. Her series is becoming very much like a saga.

I'm truly hoping that the next book won't leave my so unsatisfying when it comes to the romance. I'm not saying that's the only reason I'm reading this series. But since I only read the romance genre it's top on my list.

If you've read The Shadows or anything by J. R. Ward I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for visiting and happy reading! ♡

  2. I'm so far behind on her books but I liked most of the ones I've read so far. I'll have to give this one a go and see if I like it.
