A gift that threatens to engulf them…

Isleen Walker has long since given up hope of escape from the nightmare of captivity and torture that is draining her life, her mind, and her soul. Except…there is the man in her feverish dreams, the strangely beautiful man who beckons her to freedom and wholeness. And when he comes, if he comes, it will take all their combined fury and faith to overcome a madman bent on fulfilling a deadly prophecy.

So here we are at another joint review. I think it's one of my favorite things to do for Book Club Thursday. I love when we pick a book and all review it. I love to see what my fellow BCT bloggers thought of it.

This time it was Born to Read Books turn and they picked, Race the Darkness by Abbie Roads. I've never read her before so I was very excited to try someone new.

The sad part is that my excitement didn't last for long.

I really had trouble liking this story. I don't know what it was. Most likely the writing. I don't mind when a author head jumps with a characters thoughts or words, but at times I felt like I was getting whiplash. I just found myself sitting there thinking...what?

It was hard to enjoy because of that.

When I read the back cover I so wanted to read this story. It sounded like just my kind of story. Xander is all tough and sexy. What wasn't there to like. Believe me, I asked myself that question over and over again throughout the story.

No matter what I did I just couldn't commit to it. Sure, I read it, but I don't think I even adsorbed that much of the story.  To be honest I had to force myself to finish it.

I was really hoping that I'd like this one better then I liked my pick for our joint review back in March. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the next joint review which will be August 31st. We are reading A New Leash on Life by Debbie Burns. I hope you'll join us in reviewing and talking about it.

If you've read Race the Darkness or any other books by Abbie Roads I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for visiting and happy reading! ♡

  1. You know I love the paranormal genre, but this one left me wanting more. I was left more confused than anything else.

    1. Me too. Like I said I don't feel like I absorbed any of the story.

  2. I haven't read it but the blurb really makes it sound like it would be good. Too bad it didn't live up to that.
