Review: Lost Rider by Harper Sloan

Lost Rider
Coming Home #1

April 25th

Maverick Austin Davis is forced to return home after a ten-year career as a rodeo star. After one too many head injuries, he’s off the circuit and in the horse farming business, something he’s never taken much of a shine to, but now that it’s his late father’s legacy, familial duty calls. How will Maverick find his way after the only dream he ever had for himself is over?

Enter Leighton Elizabeth James, an ugly duckling turned beauty from Maverick’s childhood—his younger sister’s best friend, to be exact, and someone whose heart he stomped all over when she confessed her crush to him ten years back. Now Leighton is back in Maverick’s life, no longer the insecure, love-stricken teen—and Maverick can’t help but take notice. Sparks fly between them, but will Leighton be able to open her heart to the one man who broke it all those years ago?

One of the things that I love the most about being a blogger is that I get to talk about all the books I read. The good ones, bad ones, and the ones in between.

When I saw the cover of Lost Rider I knew I wanted to try it. I've never read Harper Sloan before and didn't really know much about her writing but thoughts I'd give it a try anyway.

Big mistake.

If I had taken a minute to read a excerpt of her book I would have know the writing style wasn't for me. I don't care for first person.

But since I asked to review it, I read it anyway. Not sure if that was a good idea or not. I can tell you that there was parts of the book that I really liked. This is a second chance romance kind of book.

I liked the characters, both Maverick and Leighton. In fact there are many characters mentioned in the story that I liked and wanted to know more about. The sad fact is that I don't care for the writing style so I won't be reading anymore by this author unless it changes.

I will say that if you don't mind that style of writing and like small-town type of stories you'll really enjoy it. Like I mentioned, there are some really good moments in the book.

If you've read Lost Rider or any other book by Harper Sloan I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for visiting with me and happy reading! ♡

  1. I know what you mean. It can be hard to set aside preferences when trying something one doesn't normally like/read. I like the c cover of the book

  2. That's too bad when you don't like the writing style. Especially when all the blurbs sound so good.
