Book Club Thursday: Free Day!
Welcome back to Book Club Thursday! I so glad you've come back for a visit!
Today we are doing our Free Day Post! I both love and hate when we do it. Some month's I know right away what I want to talk about, others I'm totally lost. This is a lost moment. Not to worry, as we continue talking I'll think of something.
The idea for today's post hit me last month when I was watching the Hallmark channel. They had started the new show Chesapeake Shores and I thought to myself 'I wonder how other people felt about books being made into movies or TV shows'?
I flip-flop on this idea. If they could take one of my favorite books and do it word for word and scene for scene, then I could say that I'd be a fan. Otherwise...
I'm the type of person that would rather either watch it or read it. I know better to do both. I remember as a kid ( okay, younger, happy now?) reading IT and loving the book. I started in the morning and kept reading until I was finished it that evening. Loved the book so when the movie came out I couldn't wait. The TV movie wasn't bad, but it left out some of my favorite scenes. But like I said, I was okay with it.
The same thing happened when I read Jurassic Park. But I survived.
Now here's the funny part I didn't feel the same way when my BFF and I watched The Survivor Club by Lisa Gardner. Hated it!
It was even worse when I watched Rose Hill (For the Roses by Julie Garwood). I remember that as I watched it I was on the phone talking to my aunt. I really felt sorry for her afterwards because through most of the show I was yelling at the TV which meant it was right in her ear. I couldn't help myself, it was so bad. To this day I can't watch anything with Jennifer Garner in it. Silly I know, but...
I did talk to the author about it and we each shared our person thoughts on it. I felt better being able to vent to her. Now I did it nicely it's not like I was yelling at her or anything like that. In fact it was a fun visit.
I also never watched any of the TV movies made from Nora Roberts books. I just couldn't get into the fact that the main actresses never being within child bearing years what the hell!!!! Are there no young actresses? Right!
I did decide to watch Chesapeake Shores which is based on a series by Sherrly Woods. Yes I've read books by her but I haven't in a while. I'm liking the show but I have to be honest I don't think I could read the series now. The show is in my head and isn't going anywhere. I also watched, didn't read Debbie Macomber's Cedar Cove.
Sometimes it's just best to do one or the other. Not both. I'm in awe with those people who can do both and have no issue with either the book came out or the movie.
I would love to hear your thoughts about this post. What about you? Movie, TV show or book? Thanks for visiting and happy reading!

Totally agree...books made in movies whether made for TV or big screen often lack or suffer from a variety of ills.
ReplyDeleteThey sure do.
DeleteFun review! As much as I would love to see JR Wards Black Dagger Brotherhood, I hope they never do because they couldn't possibly come close to the movie in my head! Tami Hoag's Guilty as Sin wasn't bad, but they didn't do the next book!
ReplyDeleteI remember that and you're right. It was pretty close to the book but really didn't finish it.
