Rule Breaker
Breeds #29
Lora Leigh
Berkley
2/4/14

Lion Breed, Rule Breaker had just a few rules he didn't break. Not for anything. Not for anyone.

#1. Never have sex with a woman outside his own subspecies, especially a human woman.

#2. Never, at any time, accept a mission concerning a female when Jonas Wyatt stinks of a lie.

#3. Run don't walk, skip or stumble. Run, hell for leather away from any female, human or breed, when his desire for her appears, in any way, to have so much as a single sign of Mating Heat.

Now, the woman believes he's mated, is too helpless, to fun loving and too full of life to ever be able to protect herself, let alone aide him in protecting her.

If the damned animal inside him insisted on a mate, then why pick the woman it did? One that could be struck out at, at any time?

But, what he suspected was a mating, may not be. No swollen glands? No heat? Just his animal instincts rioting, pacing, irritated whenever he's away from her.

Okay, he could handle that.

What ensues is a fiery affair that breaks all the rules of mating heat and will eventually endanger his mate with the very rules designed to protect the breeds when Jonas learns she's possibly been working against them.

I love Lora Leigh's books but for some reason I fell behind with Rule Breaker. I have no clue why either. Usually when her books come out I run and get them so I can know what's going on in my Breeds world. Like I said, no clue!

Okay, I'm lying...

Have you seen how large this book is???? It's 450 pages with pretty small print. I love getting a bang for my buck just like the rest of the world, but with the amount of books that I want to read, I just don't always have time for the big ones and they get pushed to the side.

Like Rule Breaker did for 2 years.

The sad part is that I really enjoyed the story once I made myself read it. Liked it enough that I wanted to read Bengal's Quest right away. Then I remember that Wake a Sleeping Tiger doesn't come out till October 4th and it's in hardcover with means I won't get it till 2017. So I'm thinking I might want to spread them out a little bit more. Bengal's quest can wait for the winter.

I really like Rule. He's tough but has a heart. One he tries to hide, but often can't. At first I wasn't sure about Gypsy, she seemed...something! As the book went on I learned more about her and her family and my opinion changed.

I started to see the real Gypsy!

So much happens in the story that at times you start to wonder...who was that just now talking again? I think it needed a little less intrigue, and more romance. Leigh might have been able to cut down around 150 pages.

I would like to say I'm exaggerating, but I'm not sure I am.

Even with too many pages, it's a good story and I'm happy that I read it. Their story needed to be told and I was here to hear it. Rule Breaker did leave you wondering about so much that I hope will be answered in the next books. The good thing is that with how long it will be before I read the next book I most likely will forget all the questions I had.

If you've read Rule Breaker or any other book by Lora Leigh I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for visiting with me and happy reading!

July 14th when we will be doing our "Free Day" post.

We were asked to watch the Love Between the Covers movie and review. I can't wait to tell you all about it!

  1. Nice review. I enjoyed it, but it did feel a little long. I think the series is still going strong.

    1. If the author is good I don't mind them once I get into them. Often I get lost in the story and forget the page count. It's just making myself pick it up and start it that sucks.

  3. I attempted this one (got it for review) and had to do a temp-DNF on it. I was too far behind on the series to jump in with this one which was a total bummer. I'm gonna get caught up one day though and get to it again :) Glad you enjoyed it even with it being a smidge too long.
