Single mom Anne Edmond can handle—and hand-make—just about anything. From table settings to party favors, floral arrangements to nursery décor, there is no project her creativity and a glue gun can’t tackle. But dating? That’s a whole ’nother story. Case in point: Mike Everett. He’s a gorgeous mechanic and known car-whisperer, a man who can restore classic cars like no other. And he has thrown a monkey wrench into Anne’s carefully-crafted life…
WHEN YOU CAN DO ITTOGETHER ?
One look at Anne is enough for Mike to know that she’s no fixer-upper. She’s perfect just the way she is—and the chemistry between them drives him wild. Mike’s always been a no-strings kind of guy, but Anne’s impressive self-reliance—and gorgeous exterior—gives him pause. This time, a fast joyride just doesn’t seem like enough. But first he has to convince Anne that he means to take her all the way…
I really didn't think I'd be able to find a book I hadn't already read with my name as the heroines. I thought for sure that this would be the one challenge I couldn't do. Just the thought of going through books looking for my name was just....yep, overwhelming.
But as luck would have it the first book I pulled off the shelve had a heroine with the name Anne. Sure, the spelling isn't perfect, I'm Ann instead of Anne but what the hell, I went with it.
I couldn't wait to read Start Me Up, it sounded so cute. I love the whole idea of the book. In fact, the whole series sounds so good.
I just wish I could say that I loved this story. No, I didn't hate it either. For me it wasn't good or bad. It just was...
Yes, that sounds wishy-washy. I don't know how else to say it. It's not like I didn't like the book but in no means did I love it. I'm not even sure I liked it enough to read another book in the series. It will all depend on if one day I change my mind.
Part of my problem with the story is that I just didn't feel like I really got to know the characters, they felt one-dimensional. At times the way they thought or talked made them sound much younger then they are. She's in her thirties and he's in his late twenties, but they sounded young twenties.
I can forgive a lot in the books I read but the one thing I can't, characters that I don't relate to. It's not like I didn't like them...
If you've read Start Me Up or any other book by Nicole Michaels I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for visiting and happy reading!

One of my pet peeves in reading- not relating to the characters!
ReplyDeleteMine too. The good thing is for me it doesn't happen often.
DeleteNice review. And honest. If you can't relate to the main characters, it lessesns the story for you. I am glad that that doesn't happen often either.
ReplyDeleteIt did make the story harder to deal with.
