THE DUKE’S CHRISTMAS WISH by Vivienne Lorret
By the time he cleared his head, Miss Sutherland was taking a few hurried backward steps. When she turned around, she ran headlong into him with a surprisedOh! and then an oof!
North stumbled back into the ascending room. He did everything he could to remain upright. Planting his feet wide, he was forced to hold her against the sturdy column of his body. Forced to grasp her arms. Which, incidentally, were bare between her velvet-trimmed cap sleeves and elbow-length gloves. Bare beneath his hands. Bare, warm, and softer than goose down.
A shudder—that was more about untamed desire than preoccupation—quaked through him to his very core. Staring down into her almond-shaped eyes, he watched as they widened and swept over his features, from brow to chin. Her gaze lingered a fraction longer on his mouth, as if she was waiting for him to speak or, perhaps, waiting for him to kiss her.
He took a moment to speculate whether it was the former or the latter. In the seconds that passed, he catalogued how her hands were resting against his chest, not pressing as if she wanted to gain her freedom but curled slightly as if trying to capture the beat of his heart in the cup of her palms. Also, she made no movement to separate from him. Her breathing was rapid—though perhaps that was the result of running down the hall. When she wet her lips, however, she provided an irrefutable answer.
VALERIE BOWMAN grew up in Illinois with six sisters (she’s number seven) and a huge supply of historical romance novels. After a cold and snowy stint earning a degree in English with a minor in history at Smith College, she moved to Florida the first chance she got. Valerie now lives in Jacksonville with her family including her rascally dog, Roo. When she’s not writing, she keeps busy reading, traveling, or vacillating between watching crazy reality TV and PBS.
I don't know about you but I love reading anthologies during holiday season. I just don't have as much time to read as I'd like to. Books like All I Want for Christmas is A Duke is perfect. I can read one and put it down and wrap some gifts. I'm one of those people who hates leaving a book unfinished (the damn thing keeps calling me)
As a whole the book is very good. I enjoyed each of the stories. Some more then others but isn't that how it always is? I will break down each of the book and give you my thoughts.
The Duke and the Duchess Trap
I'm pretty sure that most of us have seen The Parent Trap. For me it was a long time ago but I remember it. I will admit I was never a fan of it. I can't see ever letting any of my children go. Of course both stories are fictions so I try to remember that.
I enjoyed the writing of this story and for the most part liked the characters too. I didn't care for the fact that he was seen with other women while they weren't together. Not a fan. I did love their daughters. The girls are so cute and fun!
Even with what I didn't like about it I'd read another book of hers.
Sophie and the Duke
I don't know about you but I have the guy that was in my life when I was a kid that I often think about. So what would happen if we met again...
That's the theme of this story. I love the idea of it and the author does a good job of showing us just how good they are together. Two halves of a whole.
My only issue with this one is that it felt a little weak. I just wanted more of their story. What I got wasn't bad, just left me wanting more.
The Duke's Christmas Wish
This one has a slight modern twist for feel to it. Northcliff is such a smart man. He's a historical nerd. You got to love a smart man. Of course we all know that sometimes smart people think they can make things go one way when they can't.
This is a very enjoyable story and I think it's one of my favorites. It made me think of Amanda Quick's older books.
One Magic Season
So this story has a story line that I really enjoy. I know it's sort of a old plot but one that I think still works. I'm talking about the characters getting snowed in together and forced to deal with each other.
It could go smoothly or not. Being that this is a romance you know it will be both.
I really enjoyed the characters and thought the story was very fun. The story ended the book wonderfully.
As I said, I think you'll enjoy all the stories. It's perfect for cuddling on the couch with the tree lights shining.
If you've read All I Want for Christmas is a Duke or any other book but the authors I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for stopping by and happy reading.
Happy Holidays!
Thank you so much for hosting ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS A DUKE!
