Review: Heat Exchange by Shannon Stacey

Heat Exchange
 by Shannon Stacey
Boston Fire #1
Carina Press

Lydia Kincaid’s shipping back to Boston, but she’s not happy about it. She left to get away from the firefighting community—her father was a firefighter, her brother’s a firefighter and, more important, her ex is a firefighter. But family is number one, and her father needs her help running the pub he bought when he retired. Soon, Lydia finds it hard to resist the familiar comfort and routine, and even harder to resist her brother’s handsome friend Aidan.

Aidan Hunt is a firefighter because of the Kincaid family. He’s had the hots for Lydia for years, but if ever a woman was off-limits to him, it’s her. Aside from being his mentor’s daughter, she’s his best friend’s sister. The ex-wife of a fellow firefighter. But his plan to play it cool until she leaves town again fails, and soon he and Lydia have crossed a line they can’t uncross.

As Aidan and Lydia’s flirtation turns into something more serious, Lydia knows she should be planning her escape. Being a firefighter’s wife was the hardest thing she’s ever done, and she doesn’t know if she has the strength to do it again. Aidan can’t imagine walking away from Boston Fire—even for Lydia. The job and the brotherhood are his life; but if he wants Lydia in it, he’ll have to decide who’s first in his heart.

My thoughts....

From my very first Kowalski book I was hooked on Shannon Stacey. I found her writing to be like Susan Mallery's and Jill Shalvis. Great stories, well-written and with a ton of humor. What more could you ask for?

A hot fireman, maybe?

I will admit that when I started Heat Exchange I couldn't really get into to it. Then it hit me why, "Kowalski's" that damn family has me enthralled. I just can't help myself.

I finally had to put the book down and have a firm talk with myself about it.

It didn't help...

So I stopped reading it for a few days and then went back to it and before I knew it, I was lost in the story. I can't tell you how happy I was. All I thought was that I wouldn't be reading anything new from Stacey. Which really sucked because I also have the first book in her other series, Boys of Fall. The first book, Under the Lights I hope to be reading soon.

Fingers crossed I have no issues.

Now back the Heat Exchange, I sometimes get a little lost in our conversations and forget why we are here. I really enjoyed Heat Exchange and it's new characters Stacey created for us. I wasn't sure at first if I would like Lydia with her attitude but the more you get to know her you realize in some ways she has a right to how she feels.

This is one of the reasons I like Stacey's books. Family are always both right and wrong at the same time. Nothing is ever cut and dry and she gives you that. When you read her books you think to yourself...damn, that's happened in my family or, I've felt that way before.

I really enjoy the realism I feel with her books.

Now back to Lydia. She didn't have it always easy as a kid, and adult life turned out sucky too. But sometimes you have to pull up your big girl pants and deal with it. And look...she got Aidan out of the deal.

Lucky, lucky, her! You'll love Aidan. I think he's so easy to like because for the most part he's so easy going. When you meet his family in the book you'll like him even more. He falls hard and fast for Lydia. Really they are perfect together. She challenges him and she needs someone that sees how strong she is, but is there to catch her if she falls.

This book is very good and I really believe that if you haven't yet read anything of Stacey's after this, you'll be hooked too!

I'd love to hear your thoughts on Heat Exchange or any of the other books she writes. Thanks for stopping by and happy reading!

  2. Aw yay. I'm glad to hear you were able to get into this one. I'm excited to try it out. I loved the early Kowalskis (though I did quit reading them after a bit) and really enjoyed her first in the Boys of Fall. Very very different feel I thought but I loved it :D
