Review & Giveaway: Screwball by Linda Morris

Screwball Synopsis:

Passion dominates the diamond in the second novel in this fun and flirty baseball romance series by the author of High Heat.

Paul Dudley, president of the Plainview Thrashers, is spinning out of control. Preserving his family’s baseball legacy in these tough times takes everything he’s got, and constant clashes with his father have left him struggling for authority over the team and even his own future. So when sports reporter Willow Bourne, a one-night-stand from a year ago, walks back into his life, he knows he can’t give into his feelings for her—no matter how strong they are.

Willow never expected to see Paul again, and she’s got her reasons for keeping her distance. Except the more time she spends around Paul, the harder it is to hide her secrets—or stop herself from falling head over heels.

As the sparks between them fly, Paul discovers what Willow has been concealing from him, leaving him with a difficult choice—keep the team his top priority or make his own legacy by following his heart…

My thoughts...

This is the first time I've read Linda Morris. The book sounded so good so I wanted to try it. Part of me is really glad that I did, the other part...not so much.

Part of the problem is that I loved only one of the main characters. I've often talked about this with my girlfriends, about how it sucks when you really like a book but not either the hero or heroine. This time for me it was the heroine.

I kept hoping as the book went on that I'd like her...it never happened. But just like real life, you can't like everyone.

I did love Paul. He was such a stand up guy who looked out for everyone but himself. He really made the book enjoyable. I think because he was so likable for me it made her less for the way she treated him.

Even though I wasn't a fan of Willow's I was able to enjoy the book. I know, that sounds like I keep flipping, but I'm not. Not a fan of her's, loved everything else about the book.

The family tension that Paul is dealing with sucks for him. But it did make for some good reading. I also want to point out that just because I didn't like her doesn't mean I wouldn't read another book by Morris. In fact, I think she did a great job of keeping me with the story when I was only half happy. I would most defiantly read another book or her.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on Screwball or anything else Linda Morris has written. Thanks for stopping by and happy reading!

  1. ooh...never heard of this one. But I do love those sport themes. It can be annoying when you love one character and have issues with the other. It can be a downer. You definitely have me intrigued. Going to add this one to my wishlist. Thanks for the great review and hope you are enjoying your weekend.

  2. A good and honest review. Disliking one of the main characters is something a lot of us do at times. I always know that when the one lead desires the unlikeable character for something that only they can see and feel. I try to support that persons choice because we are all so different and the heart wants what the heart wants.

    1. I know you can't like everyone, even fictional characters. It's just disappointing when it happens.

  3. I hate it when one of the main characters is not likable or doesn't redeem them self in some way.
