Book Club Thursday: Kid Friendly

Welcome back to Book Club Thursday!

I'm going to let you in on a little secret and you have to promise not to say anything to my fellow Book Club Thursday Bloggers. When we came up with what our theme's were going to be for the year, we got together for a nice dinner. We each also had our calendar's with us and we put on our thinking caps.

You remember how I said we had a nice meal? (here's the secret part) Well I might have forgotten to mention the wine we had with it. Was it wine...or was that when we did the bloody mary's? Not sure, but I think you can tell where I'm going with this...

Some times I forget why we picked a certain theme. Like this weeks theme, "Kid Friendly" are we suppose to be talking about books that we loved with kids in them, or is this post suppose to be about if we want kids in our books.

Damn wine/bloody mary!

Since I can't remember I'm going to wing it here and hope this post turns out okay. It might be slightly different then my fellow Book Club Thursday Bloggers but I'm sure you'll all over look my shortcomings.

So here we go....

Kids, what do I think about them in books?

To be honest I think they often make the story richer. Stories with children are often more honest. So often now a days we are on our second marriage so we can relate to going into a relationship that already has kids in it. Plus children, like animals can bring a humors element to the story. Like the saying goes...out of the mouths of babes

Now I don't think kids work in every book, sometimes I don't want to think if them being hurt, even though I know that it happens every day. I'm not saying I wouldn't read a book where the children in the story are in danger, I'm just saying that they aren't my favorite.

Some of the lighter paranormal's have kids in them and I liked those. Nalini Singh's Slave to Sensation had some cute kids in it. So does Kerrelyn Sparks, Love at Stake series.

Paranormal doesn't hold the market on cute kids. Let's not forget Candis Terry's Sweet series which has Izzy Wilder. As the series went on it was like we watched her grow a little.

To sum it up...yes I like them but not always. So what about you? Will you skip a book just because one of the main characters has kids? Or would you pick it up just for that reason? We'd love to hear your thoughts on the subject.

Don't forget to spot by my fellow Book Club Thursday Bloggers and see how they interpreted the theme..."Kid Friendly"

Come back and visit us on August 13th when we will be doing a Reading Challenge 2015 post.
