Book Club Thursday: Like a Virgin!
Welcome back to Book Club Thursday!
Today is a theme day and our theme is: Like a Virgin! We are discussing whether we care for virgins being in our books or if it bothers us.
I don't mind at all my heroines in my historical's to be virgins you except that, it's the contemporaries that I have a harder time with.
When you read a historical romance you go into it knowing that the heroine will be a virgin and the man slightly older then her. It's the way of the times. I don't mind it so much. It gives a certain charm to the story. But in contemporaries...
I flip-flop on this. I know, that sounds crazy. But it's the truth. It all depends on how the author sets it up. I remember years back when I use to read books by Diana Palmer. It seemed like every book she wrote about the woman was a virgin and the guy was way to old for her. It got really bad when the women were getting closer to my daughters age and the men my husbands. Just grossed me out. Not only that, but the fact that it seemed like these woman never read a book with sex in it or watched a movie. No one can be that naive.
Another contemporary who seems to have virgins for the heroines is Lori Foster. Now with her I don't seem to mind so much. I guess it's because the woman are more worldly. I'm not sure if in a romance book being a virgin is really necessary, but I don't begrudge authors how write them in.
What about you? Does it bug you when your modern heroine is a virgin, or do you find it to be part of life?
We'd love to know what you think!
Don't forget to stop by and see what my fellow Book Club Thursday Bloggers think on the subject.
Stop by on December 11th when we are having another theme day: I Can't Wait!
This time we are talking about the books in 2015 that we can't wait to read.
