Book Club Thursday: Free Day!

Today we have a Free Day for our Book Club Thursday so I'm going to review a oldie favorite of mine...

The Sherbrooke Bride
by
Catherine Coulter
Douglas Sherbrooke, Earl of Northcliffe, is a man besieged. He must have an heir. Thus he must first provide himself with the requisite bride.
Alexandra Chambers, youngest daughter of the Duke of Beresford, has loved Douglas Sherbrooke since she was fifteen. Unfortunately, it is her sister, the incomparable Melissande, he wishes to wed.
But life never ladles out what one expects, and Douglas finds himself wed to the wrong sister. If having an unwanted wife isn’t enough, he is also plagued by The Virgin Bride, a ghost that is reputedly seen in the countess’s bedchamber. Does the willowy phantom really appear to Douglas? Does she speak to him?
I hope you enjoy reading about the exploits of Alexandra and Douglas as much as I enjoyed writing them. You will see them again in The Hellion Bride, novel two of the Bride Trilogy.

Review

I'm going to start off with telling you that I very much miss Catherine Coulter's historical romance books. I loved them and they where a huge part of the books that I bought. She no longer writes them but does continue to write, just not romance. Her Sherbrooke series is one of my favorite. The Sherbrooke Bride started it off in 1992. Oh boy, that was a long time ago. I will tell you that I've been known to read this one over and over. That's how much I liked it. What I loved most about this book is Douglas's mother. She is so mean and nasty. You can't help by laughing at some of the things she says. The mother isn't the only one doing and saying stupid things, Douglas spends a good part of this book blaming how low cut Alexandra's gowns are for the reason he can't keep his hands off her. Silly man. The Sherbrooke Bride is book one but not to worry there are more to go with it so you'll be able to visit with the family for awhile. They will make for a fun summer read!

Don't forget to stop by my fellow bloggers. I know I can't wait to see what they are talking about.

And stop back next week, July 10th when we are having a theme day, Out of This World. We will be talking aliens! What fun!

Comments

  1. I have never read them, but I own them all. I have such a bad bad TBR pile!

  2. I think I've missed this one, but I've read and LOVED some of her early historical romances. In fact, she was one of the few HR authors I started off reading. I LOVED Night Fire ( and the others in that series).

  3. I read the 2 Devil's books which I loved. And the FBI series, of course. I am a book or two behind on that too.
