Book Club Thursday: "Cabin Fever"

Can you tell by the title that my fellow bloggers are getting a little tired of the cold? We are once again in a cold snap and even as I type this I shaking from the cold. I need a blanket and a good book. Both I'm going to get as soon as I'm done writing this blog.

This week we are doing a theme week which is..."Cabin Fever" We will talk about warm weather books. I'm talking about....

When Summer Comes
by
Brenda Novak

One day, Callie Vanetta receives devastating news. . .
She needs a liver transplant. But her doctors warn that, in her case, the chances of finding a compatible donor aren’t good.
Determined to spend whatever time she has left on her own terms, she keeps the diagnosis to herself and moves out to her late grandparents’ farm. She’s always wanted to live there. But the farm hasn’t been worked in years and she begins to fear it’s too much, she’ll have to return to town.
One night, a stranger comes knocking at her door…
He’s an attractive and mysterious drifter by the name of Levi McCloud who offers to trade work for a few nights’ shelter. Callie figures she doesn’t have anything to lose. He needs a place to stay until he can fix his motorcycle; she needs an extra pair of hands. The arrangement seems ideal until what was supposed to be temporary starts to look more and more permanent. Then she realizes she does have something to lose — her heart. And, although he doesn’t yet know it, Levi stands to lose even more.

Review
I'm very much enjoying this series but find that it almost reads as women's fiction, instead of romance. I'm not a fan of women's fiction but this series has enough romance that I've been liking it. "When Summer Comes" so far has been my favorite. I liked both Callie and Levi. What Callie is going through is so sad. She keeps it all to herself and doesn't let her friends or family know. Of course she does let bad boy Levi in on some of the things going on. Her friends feel he's bad for her but they couldn't be more wrong. He's just what she needs. There is more to Levi then he lets be known. Do yourself a favor and read this series.

Don't forget to stop by my fellow Book Club Thursday bloggers and see what book makes them forget about the cold. Stop by on March 6th when we will be doing another theme day, Luck O' The Irish. I can't wait to see what books we each pick for that.

  1. I love this series BUT I'm behind! I agree with it having more of a women's fiction feel but with more romance. This cover just SCREAMS Summer to me too!
